Sanyo PLC-XU10E: Projector Lamp Fantastic!

The Sanyo PLC-XU10 series is sort of like the lovable big guy of the projector world, the Shaquille O’Neal, the Notorious B.I.G, the Snuffallupagous if you will, of the rapidly growing 5 billion dollar a year industry. And those numbers are no laughing matter or perhaps they are, depending on your perspective.

The Sanyo PLC-XU10 is one of the more popular projectors on the market and certainly a marathon runner if you consider how long the average consumer keeps their unit for. Most people who own these projectors tend to re-buy projector lamps and keep the units because of their quality and durability.

To shake down the specifications on the PLC-XU10 is simply a joy. The unit boasts an 800 ANSI Lumens projector lamp that is considered a UHB or UHP type lamp.

The unit celebrates a solid 1024x768 native resolution and 24-bit color support. Originally it was sold with a 3 year extended warranty and I’ll bet you’ll be able to find a lot of units that still are covered under Sanyo’s confident warranty plan.

We recently tested the Sanyo PLC-XU10E but we were constricted to a classroom where the projector was mounted. Unfortunately, the only time we were able to test and review this projector was at around 3 o’clock in the afternoon. That meant that we were unlucky enough to have a large chunk of sunlight splashing up right beside the space where the unit projected its image. The unit, as mentioned earlier, only has an 800 ANSI Lumens projector lamp and so it was kind of difficult to get a feel for the resolution and pretty much anything pertaining to the PLC-XU10’s image.

We can tell you that the fan runs at a fairly quiet decibel and there were no interruptions in the movie “Born on The Fourth of July” starring Tom Cruise (that was the movie we chose to test the PLC-XU10 with). Upon close inspection the image did not seem grainy and the tech that was monitoring us while we reviewed the unit only had good things to say about the projector.
