The Endless Integration of the iPod : Projectors

If you thought that the iPod was going away or was nearing the point of saturation, think again. Apple sold a record number of iPods last year and other companies and brands are still working towards integration with newly developed software and hardware.

Earlier this week at Infocomm 2007, one of the world’s largest information and communication trade shows in North America, Viewsonic revealed its newest iPod ready creation. The PJ258D DLP projector comes equipped with a “plug n’ play” iPod dock so that users can listen to, and watch their music videos, pictures and anything else media-related stored in their iPod.

As the iPod is evolving, the companies that want to be a part of the phenomenon are therefore designing products that are as quick and easy to use as the iPod itself. Originally the iPod was a black and white screen with only music and perhaps notes available for access. Now with the ability to upload music, movies, calendars and all sorts of other media it was only time before someone came up with the iPod friendly projector.

The simplicity behind the idea is that you don’t have to mess around with cables nor do you have to bring your computer to start watching your favorite movies and pictures. Viewsonic and other companies are sure to include at least one projector in their line-ups that can accept the iPod as a plug-in device.

It doesn’t seem as if these new iPod integrated projectors are that much more expensive than the going rate since the PJ258D DLP is retailing for roughly $1300 USD. The licensing and cost required to be able to integrate the iPod doesn’t seem to be slowing down the rate at which companies are developing their products, and it is definitely a win-win for both Apple and its business partners.
